Junior Platform Engineer
DevOps / Platform Engineer – Core Team
Workplace: White City, London - 1-2 days a week in the office
The Team
As a DevOps / Platform Engineer in the Core Team, you’ll be part of ITV’s Group Technology Platforms business area based in our London office. The role involves supporting software development by building, maintaining, and evolving the Common Platform—our internal development platform. This includes:
- Combining the best of open-source, cloud-native, and SaaS tooling into highly automated, IaC-driven, and easy-to-deploy architectures.
- Acting as the owner of the Common Platform tooling, responsible for:
- Bug & issue resolution
- Feature requests
- Collaborating with Embedded Platform Engineers to ensure best practices, DevOps capabilities, and tooling are shared across ITV’s software development teams.
- Communicating platform changes to downstream teams through:
- Presentations
- Training workshops
- Coaching sessions
The Role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and leveraging existing Common Platform functions.
- Prioritising work within the Core Platform for upgrades and business delivery, assisting engineers with:
- Deployments
- Production issues
- Reviewing and approving pull requests across ITV for:
- New infrastructure deployments
- Permission changes
- Access control updates
- Maintaining and supporting:
- IT Infrastructure
- Common Platform Infrastructure (e.g., Jenkins)
- Managing Kubernetes upgrades on AWS.
- Designing future infrastructure for:
- New applications
- Redesigns of existing applications.
- Sharing best practices and contributing ideas, improvements, and designs to the Common Platform team.

Skills You’ll Need (Minimum Criteria)
- Secure cloud practices: Building highly performant, scalable cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS).
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Strong Terraform experience, version control strategies for IaC deployments.
- Containerisation & Kubernetes: Experience deploying container workloads, ideally using Kubernetes.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Familiarity with Continuous Delivery/Continuation Integration tooling (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Monitoring & Alerting: Competence in monitoring and alerting systems.
- Production Incident Response: Ability to diagnose and resolve cloud/infrastructure-related production issues.

Additional Criteria
- Cloud Cost Optimisation: Experience balancing cost efficiency with resilience in cloud deployments.
- Linux Proficiency: Deep knowledge of CentOS and Amazon Linux 2.
- Agile Methodology: Experience delivering projects using an Agile framework.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback (e.g., PR reviews).
- Mentorship & Leadership: Experience in mentoring, coaching, or Line Management (there will be an expectation to Line Manage junior engineers).
- Collaboration Flexibility: Willingness to travel to London once a month to support the Common Platform team and embedded teams.
