Job Description
ALTEN LTD UK is looking for a Junior Power Electronics Design Engineer to join its growing electrical engineering team in Coventry.
This role focuses on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and validation, supporting the development of next-generation vehicles, including electric and autonomous platforms.
Key Responsibilities
EMC Testing (Core Focus)
- Support and conduct EMC and electromagnetic test activities on vehicle systems and components
- Assist in test setup, execution, and reporting
- Work with internal and external test facilities
Test Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse EMC test data and results
- Identify non-compliance issues and support root cause analysis
- Produce clear technical reports and documentation

Compliance & Standards
- Support testing in line with automotive EMC standards and regulations
- Ensure all activities meet safety, quality, and compliance requirements
Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with engineering, validation, and supplier teams
- Support issue resolution and continuous improvement activities
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 2–5 years’ experience
- Exposure to EMC testing, electromagnetic principles, or lab-based testing
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
- Interest in automotive/vehicle systems
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience
Desirable
- Experience with automotive EMC standards (e.g. CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637)
- Hands-on EMC test lab experience (internships, placements, university projects)
- Familiarity with:
- Test equipment (e.g. spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, antennas, RF amplifiers)
- CAN/LIN networks
- Data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, MATLAB, Python)
- Test reporting and documentation methodologies
- Root cause analysis techniques for test failures
- Basic understanding of vehicle electrical systems or high-voltage systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow test procedures/standards
- Good communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
