Junior Programme Manager – eCommerce & Software Development

Location: Global (aligned with US working hours), Reset size: NY/NYC, LON/London VML, part of WPP

About the Role

Junior Programme Manager with eCommerce/software development focus to guide high-impact projects from vision to successful delivery. As an early-career leader, you’ll ensure timely, budget-aligned execution while nurturing team performance and stakeholder trust across blue-chip clients.

Key Location Hubs: Kansas City, New York, Detroit, London, São Paulo, Shanghai US Working Hours: 11:00 AM–7:00 PM (occasional holiday flexibilities)


What You’ll Do

  • Lead Project Lifecycle

    • Oversee end-to-end delivery of complex programmes (games, budgets, timelines) to meet defined business objectives.
    • Partner with Account Director to align deliverables with productivity targets.
  • Risk & Compliance

    • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks; compile accurate reports for stakeholders.
    • Ensure adherence to standard quality/performance benchmarks via tailored "ways of working" (WoW) from day one.

  • Planning & Dependance Management

    • Track inter-project dependencies across workstreams/vendors; create program-level roadmaps.
    • Synchronise stakeholders’ progress updates, escalating changes proactively.
  • Resource Transition Mastery

    • Manage resource allocation (internal/external) via dynamic plans linked to functional leads.
    • Govern vendor relationships/third-party contracts (third-party management, expansions).
  • Relationship Curatorship

    • Develop collaborative ties with internal VML teams + external clients at all levels.
    • Define and drive execution of governance structures per client’s objectives.

What We Want From You

Core Credentials

  • Maximum leadership in cross-team collaboration, minimum 20 direct reports (prev. team management).

  • Agile proficiency with 3+ years experience, including hybrid Waterfall-to-Agile transitions.

  • Programme/Software Development & eCommerce voyage:

    • 6+ years project management in app/experience development.
    • Ecommerce migration/refactoring/re-platforming know-how (Magento, Azure/AWS experience w/add-on value).
    • Cloud (On/Prem) + DevOps familiarity (e.g. Jenkins, GitLB), preferably Azure AWS tooling.
  • Agile Armoury: Scrum/Kanban expertise, release pipelines (CI/CD, handoffs).

  • Technical/Operational Savvy

    • Scripting/commit tool (Git, SVN, Bitbucket) fluency.
    • Digital infrastructure (hosting, eComm stacks); 3rd party oversight.
  • Soft Competencies

    • Stakeholder diplomacy across cultures/business levels.
    • Budget stewardship (financial tracking, programme extensions).
    • Bang-for-buck mentality: negotiation w/corporate/commercial risks.
    • Tactful crisis intervention (sensitive discussions).
  • Essential Skills

    • English (fluent verbal/written).
    • Office Suite mastery (Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Agile feedback cycles + cross-functional mental agility.
