Junior Project Manager – Engineering & Construction
Location: Bridgewater, Somerset On Site: 3–4 days per week Security Clearance: BPSS

About the Role
You will join ALTEN’s team in Somerset to support complex major infrastructure and nuclear-sector projects. This role focuses on leading the full lifecycle delivery of multidisciplinary projects, ensuring cost, schedule, risk, and quality control in highly regulated environments.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing stakeholders, contractors, and project teams to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality engineering outcomes.
- Working within strict compliance frameworks, including nuclear quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Leading the delivery of major projects from concept to handover.
- Developing and implementing engineering, contract, and execution strategies.
- Managing multi-discipline Engineering, Procurement, & Construction Management (EPCM) projects across all phases.
- Ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Applying estimating, scheduling, programming, and Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques.
- Monitoring and controlling cost, risk, change, and project performance.
- Implementing robust risk management strategies and mitigation plans.
- Overshooting complex contracts under NEC and FIDIC frameworks.
- Overseeing procurement strategies and contractor performance.
- Handling commercial claims, negotiations, and dispute resolution.
- Engaging effectively with multi-level stakeholders, including clients, contractors, consultants, and regulators.
- Delivering Clear presentations, reports, and project updates.
- Facilitating decision-making in complex project environments.
- Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and regulatory requirements.
- Promoting a strong safety-first culture across all project activities.
- Applying nuclear quality standards and graded quality assurance.
- Maintaining high environmental and security compliance standards.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Skills & Knowledge
✅ Proven leadership capability in complex, high-value engineering projects. ✅ Strong understanding of project management frameworks aligned with APM (Association for Project Management) Competency Standards. ✅ Proficiency in project controls tools (cost, planning, risk, EVM). ✅ Strong analytical, numerical, and critical reasoning skills. ✅ Excellent communication, influencing, and facilitation abilities. ✅ Working knowledge of CDM Regulations. ✅ Understanding of nuclear quality assurance and graded quality approaches.
Required Qualifications
✅ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent military experience).
Desirable Experience
✔ Experience in nuclear energy or other highly regulated sectors. ✔ Working knowledge of French. ✔ Demonstrated success in:
- Managing engineering design and field execution strategies.
- Delivering EPCM projects.
- Overseeing construction activities and contractor management.
- Managing complex procurement and contract strategies.
