The Opportunity

The Junior Project Manager role is an essential project delivery support position reporting to a Portfolio Manager within the Global Services Delivery Unit (DU).

Primary Job Purpose

As a Junior Project Manager, your responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Project Managers, Portfolio Managers, and project teams in establishing, planning, managing, delivering, and controlling projects in alignment with the project management grading framework and agreed governance processes.
  • Demonstrating strong organisational and time management skills, making decisions within operational boundaries, and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Applying agreed project management methods, tools, and controls while actively contributing to personal and professional development.

Your success will be measured by:

  • Delivering contracts to agreed schedules, costs, and quality standards.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with customers, subcontractors, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting mobilisation and structured delivery of bids and contracts.
  • Identifying, recording, and managing risks and issues associated with bidding and delivery.
  • Providing accurate reporting and forecasting against agreed metrics and milestones.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of delivery processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of:

    • Project plans, schedules, milestones, and resource forecasts for assigned work areas.
    • Document repositories, status reports, meeting minutes, action logs, and decision records.
  • Manage assigned tasks and work packages, ensuring effective workload execution and escalation when required.

  • Apply agreed project management processes, governance, and tools to underpin successful project delivery.

  • Monitor progress against established milestones, maintaining comprehensive records of:

    • Risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, and actions.
  • Prepare and maintain all relevant project documentation, including:

    • Progress reports, governance meeting materials, and deliverable artefacts.
  • Assist with:

    • Project meetings, reviews, and governance activities, including setting agendas, taking minutes, and tracking follow-up actions.
    • Monitoring project expenditure, managing purchase activity, and coordinating supplier or subcontractor activities as needed.
  • Support quality assurance and compliance with Roke’s Quality Management System (QMS) by maintaining up-to-date project records and deliverables.

  • Clearly and promptly communicate with project teams and stakeholders, facilitating coordination and addressing blockers.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and uphold the adoption of project management best practices.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Education to A level equivalence, BTEC Level 3, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent practical experience.

Desirable

  • An entry-level project management certification (e.g., APM PFQ, PRINCE2 Foundation, AgilePM Foundation or equivalent).
  • A degree (or approved equivalent) in:
    • Project Management, Business, Engineering, Science, Technology, or a related field.

Required

  • A grounding in core project management principles, including planning, scheduling, reporting, risk management, issue resolution, and project governance.
  • Discipline in organisation with the ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively with project teams, internal stakeholders, and suppliers.

Preferred

  • Practical experience in coordination, administrative roles, delivery support, or project-related functions, ideally in a structured or deadline-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and the capacity to learn and apply project tracking, collaboration tools, and document management systems.
