Junior Prompt Engineer
Location: Reading (Hybrid)
Term: Permanent
Salary: £45,000 to £60,000 per annum
Benefits: Pension, Hybrid Working, Training & Development, Career Progression, Annual Leave, Company Benefits etc.
We are an innovative technology company developing cutting-edge AI solutions for a diverse range of commercial clients. As we continue to invest in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, we are looking to expand our growing AI team with the addition of a Junior Prompt Engineer.
About the Role
As a Junior Prompt Engineer, you will work alongside experienced AI Engineers and Software Developers, helping to design, test, and optimise AI-powered solutions used across a variety of real-world applications.
Key Requirements
- A degree qualification (2:1 or above preferred) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or another STEM discipline
- A genuine interest in Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Basic to intermediate Python programming skills
- Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar LLMs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- A willingness to learn, develop, and build a career within AI

Ideal Attributes
- An understanding of prompt engineering principles and AI best practices
- Experience working with OpenAI, Anthropic, or Azure OpenAI APIs would be beneficial
- Knowledge of AI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub version control
- Experience with SQL and REST APIs would be advantageous
- Knowledge of vector databases and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts would be beneficial
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS
- Experience using automation tools such as Power Automate, n8n, or Zapier would be advantageous
- A proactive approach with a passion for learning new technologies

Responsibilities
- Designing and refining prompts to improve the performance, accuracy, and reliability of AI models
- Building AI workflows that integrate Large Language Models, APIs, databases, and automation platforms
- Testing and evaluating AI model performance through prompt optimisation and benchmarking
- Working closely with software engineers and stakeholders to develop AI-powered applications
- Applying Python and prompt engineering techniques to solve real-world business challenges
- Researching emerging AI technologies and recommending improvements to existing solutions
- Maintaining prompt libraries, technical documentation, and AI best practices
