The Junior Quantity Surveyor role at Firefly Welding Ltd. is an on-site position based in Cardiff / Wirral. The role involves assisting with the preparation and management of project cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents, ensuring accurate measurement and valuation of welding and pipefitting works. The Junior QS will help track project costs, review contractor and supplier quotations, and support the negotiation and administration of contracts.
Daily tasks include:
- Working closely with managers and site teams
- Preparing interim valuations
- Monitoring variations
- Contributing to financial reports and forecasts
- Maintaining accurate records
- Supporting compliance with company standards and certifications
- Contributing to continuous improvement in commercial processes
Qualifications
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in cost estimation and financial reporting.
- Basic knowledge of quantity surveying principles, construction contracts, and commercial practices within industrial or construction environments.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and familiarity with cost management or project management software.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with site teams, suppliers, and clients.
- Relevant qualification or working toward a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Understanding of health, safety, and quality standards, with an interest in working within a certified and safety-focused environment.
- Ability to work on-site in Cardiff, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing project demands.
- Previous internship, placement, or entry-level experience in construction, engineering, or industrial projects is advantageous.
