Junior RAN Test Engineer

Role Overview

As a Junior RAN Test Engineer, you will join Ericsson’s RAN Test team and help ensure our 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions work as expected before they go into live customer networks.

This is an early-career role for recent graduates, offering clear structure, support, and mentoring to help you build confidence in:

  • Mobile networks
  • Test methods
  • Automation over time

You’ll start by learning foundational concepts and gradually take on responsibility alongside experienced Integration Engineers, Network Engineers, and Test Managers.

The role suits those who enjoy:

  • Understanding how systems work
  • Problem-solving in practical ways
  • Exploring mobile networks, software/systems testing, and automation/AI

Over time, opportunities exist to progress towards roles like:

  • Integration Engineer
  • Network Engineer
  • Test Specialist within Ericsson.

What You Will Do

Your early months will focus on learning and gaining confidence while working with Ericsson’s tools and methodologies. As you progress, your responsibilities expand alongside your expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow a structured onboarding plan:

    • Learn 4G/5G RAN concepts
    • Understand Ericsson’s tools and processes
    • Work through internal learning platforms and local workshops
  • Shadow experienced colleagues during:

    • Test planning
    • Execution
    • Troubleshooting Then gradually take ownership of small, well-defined tasks with guidance.
  • Assist in preparing and running test cases for:

    • New software loads
    • Feature releases
    • Configuration changes

  • Collect, organise, and analyse:

    • Logs
    • Traces
    • Basic KPIs from test runs To support investigations and understand results.
  • Use and contribute to automation frameworks and scripts:

    • Run existing tests
    • Over time, introduce small improvements (e.g., parsing logs or producing simple reports).
  • Support daily test environment tasks:

    • Apply software updates (once trained)
    • Make simple configuration changes
  • Document work in standard Ericsson tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira) with clear notes on:

    • Test cases
    • Results
    • Defects
  • Participate in team routines:

    • Stand-ups
    • Planning sessions
    • Retrospectives
  • Collaborate with colleagues across different functions and locations, offering small improvements based on your observations.


What You Will Bring

Key Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of these fields (or similar):

    • Telecommunications
    • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Networks & Security
  • Technical foundation and interest in mobile networks and testing, shown through:

    • Basic knowledge of networking concepts (IP, routing, latency, throughput)
    • Exposure to Linux/UNIX (e.g. terminal use, basic commands)
    • Hands-on experience with at least one programming/scripting language (e.g. Python, Java, C/C++, Bash) from coursework or personal projects
    • Experience in practical testing (e.g., software, systems, lab, or internship projects)
