Junior RAN Test Engineer
Junior RAN Test Engineer – Role Overview
As a Junior RAN Test Engineer, you will join Ericsson’s RAN Test team and help ensure our 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions function as expected before deployment in live customer networks. This is an early-career role designed for recent graduates, providing structured support, mentoring and progressive responsibility to help you build expertise in mobile networks, testing methodologies, and automation at a measured pace.
You’ll begin by mastering the fundamentals while contributing to real project work alongside experienced Integration Engineers, Network Engineers, and Test Managers. Ideal for those who enjoy breaking down technical challenges, problem-solving in practical settings, and exploring mobile networks, software testing, and automation/AI. Over time, you can progress to roles such as Integration Engineer, Network Engineer, or Test Specialist.
What You Will Do
In the initial months, your focus will be on learning and strengthening your understanding of tools and processes. As you grow in confidence, you will gradually take on more responsibility.
You will:
- Follow a structured onboarding plan covering 4G/5G RAN concepts, Ericsson tools, and work methodologies, utilising internal learning platforms and local hands-on workshops.
- Shadow experienced colleagues during test planning, execution, and troubleshooting, then gradually take ownership of smaller, well-defined tasks while receiving mentorship.
- Assist in preparing and running test cases for new software loads, features, and configuration changes within the RAN test environment, always under guidance from senior engineers.
- Gather and organise logs, traces, and basic KPIs from test activities, contributing to result analysis and issue investigation by the team.
- Use existing automation frameworks and scripts to run tests; over time, contribute small enhancements, such as log parsing or generating simple reports.
- Support daily operations within the test environment and related tools (e.g., applying software updates or conducting basic configuration changes) after training on the procedures.
- Document test cases, results, and defects in standard Ericsson tools (e.g., Azure DevOps/Jira), ensuring clear, actionable notes for colleagues.
- Engage in regular team activities (stand-ups, planning sessions, retrospectives), collaborate closely with colleagues in varied functions and locations, and initiate small improvements where possible.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
