The opportunity:
Reinsurance and Business Accounting sit within our global finance team. We use a structured and scalable way of working to keep aged debt low and get the most out of our ceded reinsurance assets. By doing this, we make sure we're getting full value from our reinsurance spend, support balance sheet stability, drive cash flow and contribute positively to the P&L. We're big on data quality and always looking for ways to improve processes, using digital tools to simplify and streamline day-to-day tasks.
The Reinsurance team looks after everything related to Markel's ceded reinsurance programme once it's been placed. The Business Accounting team focuses on collecting debt, settling balances, billing and invoicing, as well as technical accounting and reporting.
We pride ourselves on prioritising employee wellbeing and embrace a flexible working environment.
What you'll be doing:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
