Junior Residential Conveyancer

We are recruiting a Junior Residential Conveyancer to join our client's busy, client-focused residential property team. This entry-level role is ideal for someone with some conveyancing experience or legal support background who is looking to develop a career in residential property law. The successful candidate will support the team in managing a varied caseload of sales, purchases, remortgages and transfers of equity, deliver excellent client care, maintain compliant and audit-ready files and receive structured training and supervision. Key responsibilities: Assist with progression of a caseload of residential property matters including sales, purchases, remortgages and transfers of equity; support fee earners with tasks from instruction through to completion and follow firm procedures to ensure timely case movement. Provide clear, professional and timely communications to clients, lenders, estate agents, other solicitors, surveyors and third parties; update clients regularly and escalate issues to supervising fee earners as required. Prepare standard documentation and correspondence such as client care letters, enquiries, completion statements and post-completion forms in line with precedents; ensure accuracy and correct filing within the case management system. Carry out file opening and closing procedures, maintain electronic and paper files, record accurate attendance notes and ensure all documents are saved correctly and consistently. Undertake client identity checks and assist with anti‑money laundering (AML) and source of funds checks in accordance with firm policy; raise any concerns to the supervising solicitor and help maintain audit-ready records. Liaise with lenders and estate agents to obtain required documentation, follow up on conditions and support preparation of completion monies and financial reconciliations under supervision. Progress searches and assist with requisitions on title, coordinate with colleagues to prepare for exchange and completion and support post-completion registration and administration tasks. Record time and disbursements accurately, assist with billing enquiries and provide information required for invoicing and matter budgeting as requested by supervisors. Identify straightforward opportunities to improve workflows, update precedents and support the adoption of practice management technology and process improvements. Work collaboratively with team members, seek guidance from senior colleagues and participate in training activities to develop technical skills and conveyancing knowledge. Key skills and experience required: Some experience or exposure to residential conveyancing or property support work within a law firm, conveyancing practice or regulated environment preferred. Basic knowledge of the conveyancing process including searches, mortgage transactions, land registration and post-completion formalities or a willingness to learn quickly. Good client care and communication skills with the ability to deal professionally with clients and external contacts and to escalate matters appropriately. Attention to detail and accuracy when preparing documents, recording file notes and handling financial information. Awareness of AML, client identification and source of funds checks; willingness to learn and apply regulatory and firm compliance requirements. Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office and a readiness to learn case management systems and conveyancing technology tools. Organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities under supervision, with a commitment to professional development. Qualifications and additional information: Previous conveyancing or paralegal experience advantageous but full training and ongoing support will be provided for the right candidate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
