An exciting part-time (30 hours) opportunity has become available in the busy, fast-paced Eye Outpatients Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will contribute to the growth of the team and service, providing leadership, professionalism, and adaptability within a dynamic setting. Clinics run Monday to Saturday, and the department serves up to 300 patients per session across two locations (Southampton and Lymington hospitals).

- No prior ophthalmic experience required – comprehensive training will be provided.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
The role involves full responsibilities of supervising a team of nurses in a fast-paced Eye Outpatients Department. Key duties include:
Patient & Service Delivery
- Monitor and ensure the health, safety, and security of patients and staff.
- Support patients in meeting health and well-being needs.
- Provide clinical expertise as a role model.
- Input, store, and provide patient data and information efficiently.

Team & Institutional Development
- Support and promote equality and diversity, addressing any inappropriate behaviour.

Leadership & Management Support
- Support the senior team in management tasks, including:
- Rostering and HR-related matters (e.g., probations, IPR – Individual Performance Review).
- Handling adverse events and complaints (desirable experience beneficial).
- Act as a Practice Assessor or support learners/progression (desirable).
- Basic budget oversight (desirable experience).
Technical & Administrative Tasks
- Ensure good IV (Intravenous) and ANTT (Antibiotic-Oriented Treatment – or potentially Automated Non-Timed Treatment trusteeship)-related skills.
- Strong IT literacy or willingness to learn for data management and communication.
- Understand and uphold current issues in the acute Health Service.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Qualified Nurse (degree/diploma).
- Registered on the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) register (must be active).
- Ward management experience (specifically in hospital settings).
- Significant post-registration experience/training in a relevant speciality.
- Proven commitment to continuing professional development.
- Stem experience supporting/managing learners in practice.
- Clear demonstration of clinical decision-making and judgement.
- Commitment to the role and Trust responsibilities.

Desirable Criteria
- Experience in managing adverse events and complaints.
- Appraisal skills for staff/progression management.
- Previous experience in budget management or finance oversight.
- Ability to handle compliance or auditing tasks.
