Main duties of the job

This role involves leading a team, involving nurses with different levels of experience and HCA's as well. This role will also involve being in charge of the shift and coordinating admissions and discharges on the unit. They will be reporting to their line manager who will be the band 7 in their team. This role ensures that patient safety is maintained and that staff are adequately supported to achieve the unit goals.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The candidate will need to be able to work a minimum of 30hours/week because of the nature of this role. The candidate will need to be self-motivated, have good communication skills and offer effective leadership to the team. The candidate will also need to show a willingness and ability to support students and colleagues with their learning needs on the unit.

Essential criteria

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Significant post-registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
  • Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
  • Commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
  • Appraisal skills
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
  • Some insight into budget management
