Junior Sister/Charge Nurse

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Orthopaedic Directorate at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

We are thrilled to be expanding our team and are looking for a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to help shape and deliver outstanding care within our Elective Orthopaedic Unit.

This purpose-built 13-bed department features self-contained side rooms, offering an excellent environment for focused, high-quality patient care. The unit is a fast-paced elective area supporting a wide range of orthopaedic procedures, providing a dynamic and rewarding clinical environment.

About

We’re seeking dynamic, enthusiastic, and motivated nurses who are passionate about delivering exceptional, evidence-based care. In this role, you will take an active lead in:

  • Assessing, planning, and implementing patient care
  • Evaluating care outcomes and continuously improving standards
  • Actively supporting patient flow, safe discharge, and GIRFT principles to maximize efficiency
  • Working collaboratively with MDT to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care
  • Deputising for the Senior Sister / Ward Manager when required, supporting service delivery and team leadership
  • Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, audits, and ongoing service development

You’ll be a committed and compassionate nurse with strong communication and interpersonal skills—someone who thrives in a supportive, forward-thinking team.

We currently have 2 permanent full-time positions available.

Main duties of the job

  • To work according to the NMC Code of Conduct (2008), Trust policies, and professional guidelines
  • To be responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision for a defined group of patients
  • To lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the nursing team
  • In conjunction with the Ward Manager and other Charge Nurse/Sisters, facilitate the development of the service and personal development of all nursing staff within the clinical area of responsibility
  • To deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence, attending appropriate meetings, maintaining an organised and structured workforce

  • Mentorship/ SLIP Qualification

  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-registration nursing experience in a relevant clinical setting
  • Evidence of up-to-date standards of clinical practice
  • Experience of audit
