Junior Software Engineer

We are seeking a self-motivated Software Engineer to join our agile software development team working on the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), the largest radio telescope in the world. An interest in science, technology and astronomy or radio-astronomy is important for this role.

The ideal candidate will have a good Python background and be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing monitoring and control systems used in our cutting-edge technology platforms. This role requires a combination of software development expertise and practical experience with various software tools and frameworks.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior software engineers and scientists to design, develop and maintain software for the integration of instrumentation, monitoring and control systems for the SKA.
  • Write, test, and document software code to support ongoing projects and software products, primarily using Python with occasional exposure to C/C++.
  • Participate in code reviews, debugging activities, and collaborative software development practices.
  • Contribute to testing, CI/CD workflows, and containerized deployment environments.
  • Collaborate with distributed Agile teams using modern development and communication tools.
  • Learn and apply software engineering best practices including version control, testing, and continuous integration.
  • Support ongoing operational, integration, and software quality activities across the project.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
