Junior Technologist – Jersey Department

The Role

As a Junior Technologist in our Jersey Department, you will develop and manage a product offer that meets customer expectations for quality and fit, while driving sales, profitability, and reducing faulty/fit returns. You’ll oversee your department from first-fit to delivery, ensuring consistency in every stage. This is a 4-day office-based role.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Technical Management: sole responsibility for the fitting and sealing of an entire department, maintaining quality, fit, testing, and grading standards while ensuring compliance.
  • Product Brief Development: collaborating with design and supply teams to establish accurate measurement and fabric requirements.
  • Supplier Quality Assurance: risk assess product and suppliers to ensure achievable standards, benchmarking against competitors.
  • End-to-End Product Development: leading the process from first-fit to production, coordinating with design, buying, merchandising, suppliers, franchise, international, supply chain, and E-Commerce teams.
  • Cost & Production Insights: understanding product construction, scalability, and cost minimisation for mass production.
  • Supplier Negotiation: negotiating effectively to achieve desired quality and fit objectives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: ensuring full adherence to packaging, labelling, and brand consistency across all products.
  • On-Site Quality Audits: conducting regular New Look visits to identify faults and drive continuous improvement.
  • Market Monitoring: tracking competitor quality/focus trends and reporting findings to leadership.
  • Returns & Compliance Management: monitoring weekly faulty returns, issuing weekly reports, and ensuring vendor alignment with Brand-facing issues (resolving DC holds within 48 hours).
  • Data-Driven Improvement: completing testing/lab trips, analysing **test reports (via “Datalink”), and reporting on fit and quality insights for targeted enhancements.

Who You Are

Essential: A strong grasp of fit standards and clear communication of required adjustments. Demonstrated technical product knowledge in:

  • Product testing interpretation and resolving quality issues commercially.
  • Grading consistency & logic for balanced production.
  • Fabric and trim suitability based on product type.
  • Market trends in quality and fit innovation.
  • Labeling, packaging, and legal compliance standards.
  • Numerical analysis of returns data and grade rules.
  • Risk assessment skills.

Desired:

  • Prior experience in quality management, New Look, or the fashion supply chain.
  • Minimum of three years in technical/fit-focused roles (experience over formal qualifications).
  • Qualifications: technical diploma, Level 2/3 Fashion/Clothing Technology (or equivalent).
