Your Role
As a Junior User Researcher, you will be joining the growing and exciting Digital Excellence community who are continually sharing knowledge and expertise. We are all passionate about user centred design, critical thinking, problem solving and designing and building digital services and products.
In this role you will:
- Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, developers, and other User Researchers to plan and conduct high-impact research that helps develop a better understanding of our clients’ users.
- Manage and support research activities, suggesting appropriate and effective methodologies based on the project environment and your team’s priorities.
- Research inclusively with a wide range of users, including those with additional needs and other hard-to-reach groups.
- Consider the end-to-end user journey and external factors that may impact the user experience including business, policy, and technical constraints.
- Communicate research findings to different audiences, including your project team and stakeholders, in an actionable and effective manner which supports empathy building.
- Develop your user research skills while getting regular guidance and training to produce your best work and grow as a consultant.
As part of your role you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the business and your own personal growth, through activities that form part of the following categories:
- Business Development – Leading/contributing to proposals, RFPs, bids, proposition development, client pitch contribution, client hosting at events.
- Internal contribution – Campaign development, internal think-tanks, whitepapers, practice development (operations, recruitment, team events & activities), offering development.
- Learning & development – Training to support your career development and the skills demand within the company, certifications etc.

Your Profile
You will bring the below skills and experience:
- A keen interest in the field of user research and user-centred design, keeping up to date with industry developments and conducting self-led learning
- Some hands-on experience of user research with an understanding of a range of methods and knowing when to apply them appropriately.
- Some experience in planning and conducting qualitative studies, including remote and in person interviews, observations, diary studies, concept testing and usability studies.
- Familiar with quantitative methods such as surveys to identify actionable insights or add meaning to qualitative findings.
- Some experience utilising both quantitative and qualitative methods to identify actionable insights and find deeper meanings to your findings
- Familiarity with analysing and synthesising both qualitative and quantitative data
- Strong storytelling, communication, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.
- Awareness of agile delivery methods.
- Experience or understanding of working with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards, using GDS design principles.
- You currently hold an active SC (Security Check) Clearance or are eligible to receive SC clearance
Ideally, you would also have:
- Previous experience conducting research or working in a research-focused role in a professional setting.
- A bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, anthropology, Human Computer Interaction or any user experience degree or modules, and passion for technology’s unlimited potential and ability to engage with people.
- A love of learning – you are eager to take opportunities to develop your skills in parallel with the needs of your clients.
- Experience, understanding or interest in accessibility testing or inclusive design principles
