Court Usher – Derby Coroner’s Court

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the coronial team at Derby Coroner’s Court as a Court Usher.
We are seeking a flexible, professional, and compassionate individual who is committed to providing excellent support to court users during what can often be difficult and sensitive proceedings.
The Court Usher is a key public-facing role, responsible for:
- Supervising court attendees
- Supporting the Coroner
- Ensuring the smooth and efficient running of inquests

This position requires:
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- The ability to remain calm and effective in a high-pressure environment
Main Responsibilities
The Court Usher will act as the first point of contact for individuals attending hearings, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance and guidance. Core duties include:
- Welcome and assist attendees
- Organise seating, refreshments, and case documentation
- Support the orderly running of hearings
- Act on directions from the Coroner and Coroner’s Officer to ensure proceedings proceed efficiently

About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong IT skills
- The resilience to manage exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing information
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence in handling challenging situations
- Strong organisational abilities, including prioritisation and effective planning
