Justice Benefit & Debt Advisor

Justice Benefit and Debt Advisor

Salary: £28,755 Location: Bristol, Bath (with coverage in Gloucester) Contract: Full-time Permanent

Rebuilding your life whilst on probation is one of the toughest challenges a person can face. Financial difficulties can often create additional barriers to moving forward—but with the right support, it’s possible.

We’re looking for a Benefit and Debt Advisor – someone with a rare mix of practicality, compassion, organisation, and flexibility. We understand that rehabilitation isn’t just about offering advice; it’s about proactively supporting someone to break down financial barriers and move forward.

This is a demanding role. You’ll work in a challenging environment with people who have complex needs and may be reluctant to engage. However, when you help someone break the cycle and see them take real steps forward, you’ll find it deeply rewarding.

About the Role

Primarily based in the probation office, you’ll provide information, advice, and support to individuals, helping them regain control over their finances.

This role is highly energetic—supporting multiple individuals at once while ensuring each gets focused attention—and maintaining meticulous records of every interaction to measure progress and ensure effective interventions. You’ll need to chase responses from stakeholders, follow up on benefit applications, and keep abreast of all financial aspects for each person.

What You’ll Be Doing

Core Responsibilities:

  • Advising and Supporting Individuals: Offering guidance on:
    • Budgeting
    • Arranging payment plans
    • Accessing and applying for benefits
    • Opening bank accounts
    • Achieving financial literacy and understanding
  • Working with External Agencies: Collaborating with councils, charities, housing providers, utilities, and probation services to provide practical solutions.
  • Administration: Maintaining detailed records of each interaction to ensure effective support in future appointments.
  • Group & 1:1 Interventions: Delivering tailored support sessions, 1:1 interventions, and workshops on financial literacy and money management.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
