Key Account Manager (Higher Education & State/Local Government)

About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious Key Account Manager with expertise in renewal and upsell strategies and a passion for nurturing long-term customer relationships within the higher education and state/local government sectors.

In this role, you will:

  • Proactively manage existing customer accounts with urgency and accountability.
  • Act as the primary advocate for customers across Acquia, including escalation resolution and strategic direction.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Pre-Sales, Technical Support, Customer Success, Professional Services, Operations, and Finance to drive success.
  • Identify growth opportunities and drive revenue renewal and expansion.

Customer Success & Relationship Building

  • Exceed quarterly renewal and upsell targets—your focus is on retaining and growing existing accounts.
  • Own the success of our customers on the Acquia platform, ensuring seamless adoption and maximum value.
  • Guide customers through product/feature adoption, from onboarding to full integration.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with customer stakeholders to align goals and mitigate risks.
  • Develop strong relationships with strategic leaders in your accounts.

Proactive Growth & Strategy

  • Identify new revenue opportunities, including upsells, cross-sells, and expansions.
  • Forecast renewals and work with procurement teams to ensure timely extensions.
  • Drive account strategy by collaborating with internal teams to align budgets, timelines, and priorities.
  • Self-manage accounts with minimal oversight—ownership and initiative are key.

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain accurate records in the Sales database (e.g., SFDC, CRM tools).
  • Manage multiple platforms (CRM, ticketing systems, analytics tools) efficiently.
  • Stay organized in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • 3–5 years of experience in sales, account management, or customer success, preferably in a technology company.
    • Preferred: Prior experience with education (higher ed) and government clients, including contract procurement.
  • Proven track record of owning and exceeding renewal quotas and ACV Upsell/Cross-Sell targets.
  • Strong analytical skills, particularly in renewal forecasting and customer success metrics.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, with the ability to engage at all leadership levels.
  • Technical awareness—familiarity with digital platforms, CRM tools (e.g., SFDC, Gainsight), and project management systems (e.g., Jira).
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Collaborative mind-set—experience working cross-functionally (Sales, Support, Services, Finance).
  • Proficiency in MS Office/G Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
