KEY ACCOUNT MANAGER – NORTHERN UK (PHARMACEUTICALS)
Drive growth and market access by building powerful NHS partnerships and delivering impactful pharmaceutical sales results across the North of the UK.
About the Role
R&D Partners is seeking a Key Account Manager to join a leading pharmaceutical company. This role focuses on:
- Achieving sales targets through strategic engagement with specialist customers.
- Building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders across primary and secondary care.
- Driving market access initiatives to secure commercial formulations, guidelines, and operational improvements.
- Generating clinical demand and ensuring successful product implementation in Integrated Care Boards, NHS Trusts, and Health Boards.
Ideal candidate requirements:
- Strong pharmaceutical sales background.
- In-depth knowledge of NHS systems.
- Proven ability to deliver results in both primary and secondary care.

Responsibilities
- Achieve sales budgets and business objectives by collaborating with specialist customers.
- Proactively promote a diverse product portfolio to:
- Maintain existing key accounts.
- Develop partnerships with [Integrated Care Boards, Medicines Optimisation Teams, NHS Trusts, Health Boards, and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs)].
- Secure commercially positive formulary listings, guidelines, and protocol changes for target accounts.
- Lead market access projects, including:
- Service redesign.
- Shared care guidelines.
- Generate clinical demand for products and ensure adherence to business plans.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with prescribers, influencers, and payors across both care settings.
- Submit and evaluate hospital- and regional-level tenders, assessing financial feasibility/impact.
- Organise medical-pharmaceutical events, seminars and speaker sessions within budget constraints.
- Comply with corporate, MHRA, and ABPI guidelines.

Key Requirements
Education & Certification
- Degree in Business, Pharmacy, or related discipline.
- Mandatory: ABPI accreditation certificate.
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical sales (primary & secondary care).
- Preferred: Experience in neurology, endocrinology, ICU, or critical care.
- Proven track record in product launches and market access projects.
- Familiarity with (but not limited to):
- SMC (Scientific Advisory Committees).
- NDC (NICE Decision Support Unit).
- NSS (National Formulary System).
- Health Boards.
- ADTCs (Affective Disorders Treatment Centres).
- HIS (Healthcare Information Systems).

Skills & Attributes
- Highly organised, with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Suite: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams & Zoom.
- Ability to build rapport and sustain influential partnerships.
- Commercially savvy, with a customer-centric mindset.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driving licence (clean record).
- Willingness to travel 4–5 days/week, including overnight stays.
