I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This role will see you taking over a very well run KS1 class from a teacher who is being promoted into a senior role within the school this September. The post will start a temporary contract, with a view to becoming permanent during Spring or Summer term.
The school is a small, very friendly one form entry school that is part of a wider group of federated schools that offer an excellent training and CPD programme. You will plan on a weekly basis with your Key Stage 1 teaching partner, who is an experienced teacher who enjoys sharing best practice.
The senior leadership team are on hand to help the successful teacher settle into their new role and you will be assigned a mentor to ensure that you are fully supported throughout your career at the school.
