Kia Light Vehicle Technician Apprentice - West Byfleet

The Kia Light Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship programme will support the apprentice to gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a fully qualified and accredited Kia vehicle technician.

Requirements

  • GCSE in English (grade 4 or C and above)
  • GCSE in Maths (grade 4 or C and above)

  • Initiative
  • Other relevant qualifications and industry experience are beneficial and can adjust the apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing vehicles
  • Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components
  • Advising the Service Advisor about faults and required repairs
  • Contact with customers about work required
  • Diagnosing and repairing complex vehicle faults
  • Complying with health and safety procedures in the workplace
  • Preparing the vehicle and working area before work activities
  • Maintaining and restoring the work area during and on completion of activities
  • Storing, maintaining, and returning tools and equipment
  • Accessing vehicle technical data to inform inspections and judgments
  • Complying with environmental and sustainability procedures
  • Applying vehicle safety inspection and routine maintenance procedures
  • Selecting and using tools and equipment, including diagnostic equipment
  • Removing, repairing, and replacing vehicle tyre and balance wheel assemblies
  • Inspecting, removing, and replacing parts or components in steering, suspension, braking, emission, air conditioning, battery, charging, fluid, and filtration systems
  • Applying state-of-health condition monitoring tests to high voltage batteries and chargers for electrified vehicles
  • Applying four-wheel geometry checks and adjustments
  • Applying safe working practices and procedures to isolate electrified vehicles
  • Recording vehicle service maintenance, parts replacement, or repair
  • Applying customer service principles and organisational customer care practices
  • Providing quotations and ordering automotive parts, products, and consumables
  • Applying procedures for stock and parts storage
  • Applying organisational sales processes
  • Applying team working principles
  • Complying with equity, diversity, and inclusion guidance
  • Communicating with others verbally and in writing
  • Using information and digital technology systems, including GDPR and cyber security compliance
  • Completing and recording learning and development activities
  • Applying procedures to check and replace fluids and filtration parts

  • Wage: £16,640 for the first year, potentially increasing depending on age (National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices applies).
  • Training course: Autocare technician (level 2).
  • Hours: 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday (with potential weekend requirements).
  • Duration: 3 years.
  • Block Training Weeks at the Kia Academy in Derby, with hotel accommodation provided and funded if required.
  • Opportunity to transition into Senior Technician, Master Technician, EV Specialist, and Service/Aftersales Manager roles upon completion.
