Kitchen Assistant
Catering Assistant - Winnington Park Community Primary & Nursery School
Hours: 10 hours per week
Shift Hours: Approximately 11:30 – 13:30
Hourly Rate: £12.71
Location: Firdale Road, Winnington, Firdale Park, Cheshire, CW8 4AZ
Contract: School term-time (plus two cleaning days) with salary paid equally over 12 months
About the Role

As a Catering Assistant, you’ll play a vital role at Winnington Park Community Primary & Nursery School. Representing both Edsential and our client school, you’ll ensure all pupils receive high-quality meals while delivering excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll support the Catering Supervisor with a range of duties, including:
- Assisting with food preparation, cooking, and serving meals
- Managing portion control
- Handling special diets, allergens, and intolerances (where applicable)
- Preparing dining areas and service counters
- Cleaning dining, kitchen, and staff facilities
- Operating cash tills, following IT procedures, and completing relevant training
- Adhering to safe systems of work, maintaining hygiene, and upholding safeguarding in line with Edsential policies, The Code of Practice, and Food Safety Legislation
- Working comfortably in a manually intensive environment

Requirements
While prior experience in a school kitchen would be beneficial, we provide full training for all successful applicants. We’re looking for candidates who:
- Can build positive relationships and promote a positive work environment
- Possess excellent communication and organisational skills
- Are comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced customer-facing role
- Can follow direction and prioritise tasks effectively
- Are flexible and able to assist across other Edsential locations when required
