Kitchen Assistant

Full-time (32 hours per week)

At HC-One, we believe kindness is the cornerstone of everything we do. As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll join a team dedicated to creating nutritious, high-quality meals for our residents in Dementia, Nursing, Residential, and Specialist care homes. Your compassion and expertise will help enhance their lives through thoughtful food.

Responsibilities

Working under the direction of the Chef or Cook, you’ll:

  • Prepare and assist with meal planning, following dietary requirements and recipes
  • Serve meals with warmth, respect, and care, ensuring residents receive nourishment in a dignified manner
  • Maintain the highest standards of hygiene—cleaning equipment, surfaces, and ensuring temperature monitoring
  • Champion effective stock rotation, accurate record-keeping, and ingredient safety protocols
  • Train others in the safe use of kitchen technology and equipment
  • Sponsor seamless service, including wash-up duties, to maintain an immaculate kitchen environment
  • Be the face of kindness—ensuring all resident interactions reflect compassion, patience, and professionalism

Requirements

We’re looking for individuals who genuinely care about others and have experience (or a willingness to learn) in kitchen environments. Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Basic kitchen experience, preferred but not essential
  • Certification or willingness to pursue an NVQ2 in Catering or Food Preparation
  • Ability to follow detailed recipes and maintain accurate records
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail, and multitasking skills
  • Compassionate attitude with a genuine commitment to enhancing quality of life
  • Safeguarding awareness: the ability to identify risks, report concerns confidently, and adhere to HC-One’s safeguarding policies

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
