The Catering Department is responsible for providing freshly cooked meals to all of our patients, using locally sourced ingredients. Food is a vital part of a patient's recovery, and we aim to provide nutritious and tempting meals for the enjoyment of our patients. We also have three retail catering environments, providing meals and snacks to our staff teams and visitors.
All members of the Catering Department play an important role in this important service provision and in ensuring the quality and safety of the food is of the highest standard.
Kitchen Porters play a vital role in our patient food service, ensuring meals reach patients timely and safely, assisting with light food handling duties and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in catering areas at all times.
Main duties of the job
The Role Includes The Following Duties
- Loading food trollies ready for next meal
- Light food preparation duties, including portioning of menu items
- Transporting trolleys of food to and from wards and departments
- Cleaning all kitchen areas, following a cleaning schedule
- Cleaning of large kitchen equipment and machinery
- Washing up food preparation equipment by hand and using utensil washer
- Waste disposal, including segregation of recycling
- Working in temperature controlled areas
We are looking for someone with an eye for detail who enjoys being active in their role.

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
