I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About The Hartley Arms
At Honesty Group, we believe hospitality should feel honest, welcoming, and full of care — whether that’s through a perfect sourdough loaf, a well-poured pint, or a kitchen that runs smoothly behind the scenes. The Hartley Arms is a pub rooted in community: good food, good people, and genuine hospitality. No gimmicks. Just quality ingredients, warm service, and a team that looks after one another. Everything we do is built on teamwork. And that includes the kitchen. We believe every role matters. A strong kitchen porter keeps the whole kitchen moving and plays a huge part in delivering great service. You’ll be joining a supportive team where hard work is noticed, people are respected, and opportunities to grow are real. Many of our chefs and kitchen leaders started in junior kitchen roles — we love developing people who care and want to learn.
