I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

At a glance, your role is to work as part of a team to set up and close down the potwash area, maintaining it throughout the shift (washing up, keeping equipment available and ensuring that hygiene standards are met consistently). You will communicate with the team to ensure that all required items are available for a smooth and efficient operation.
Our pubs open early and close late, so we offer great flexibility with shift patterns, including mornings, evenings, weekends and late finishes.
Duties Include
- setting up and closing down the potwash area and supporting other kitchen work stations
- following dishwashing, grease-management and hand-hygiene procedures
- cleaning, polishing and storing cutlery
- managing waste, recycling and correctly receiving and storing deliveries
- rotating stock and keeping fridges, freezers and storage areas clean and organised
- completing defrost, preparation and general cleaning tasks, following a clean-as-you-go approach
- maintaining high standards of food storage, safety and kitchen cleanliness
Progression and development
Most Wetherspoon team leaders and managers started in the kitchen or behind the bar.
