We are seeking professional, self-motivated, driven and enthusiastic individuals to be part of our team, in our Cafe/Bar Johns Coffee House & Tavern operating within a luxury hostel/Boutique Capsule Hotel on the Royal Mile with CoDE - The CoURT.
CoDE offers high quality accommodation in a combination of both double and multi-share Pod bed rooms. We are a Capsule Hotel. Our location just off The Royal Mile, opened mid-August 2019, and consists of 200+ beds, social areas, all designed to the highest standard and in keeping with the historic building we occupy. Our original site in Edinburgh, on Rose Street, is nine years old and has consistently been one of the top-rated accommodation in the city across all websites.
We're looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team at John’s Coffee House & Tavern, located within Code Hostel – The Court. This is a key role supporting the kitchen and front-of-house teams to deliver quality food and a clean, welcoming environment for our guests.
WHO YOU ARE
We’re looking for somebody as passionate as we are about making sure our high standards are maintained as the CoDE family grows. We are looking for candidates who want to join the team full time- 40 hours per week. Working hours available are 6am-2:30pm or 3pm-11:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing and presenting high-quality dishes in line with our menu standards.
- Prepare and serve a range of hot and cold beverages, including barista-style coffee and alcoholic drinks.
- Provide friendly and efficient service to all guests at the bar and coffee counter.
- Ensure stock is received, checked, and stored correctly; report shortages or discrepancies to the Duty Manager.
- Maintain strict stock rotation and monitor use-by dates to reduce waste.
- Identify and report any equipment faults or hazards to the Duty Manager promptly.
- Adapt to varying levels of business, including special events and group bookings.
- Support with deliveries and maintain cleanliness and order in food storage areas.
- Take pride in ensuring all kitchen and prep equipment is kept clean and in good condition.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen, including public areas, during and after service.
- Follow food hygiene and safety procedures in line with current legislation.
- Attend and complete all necessary training as required by the business.
- Assist with regular stock checks and inventories.

What We’re Looking For:
- A team player with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Someone who takes initiative and adapts quickly in a busy hospitality setting.
- Previous kitchen or hospitality experience is beneficial, but not essential – training will be provided.

Your role will also include:
- Caring for the building
- Adhering to all Health and Safety policies for our team and our guests
- Ensuring doors are locked
- Reporting maintenance required
- Reporting lost & found
- Ensuring the common areas remain clean and tidy for our guests
- Feeding back any guest comments.
