Job Opportunity: Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adult Mental Health Services
We are pleased to offer this full-time position covering an Older Adult population of approximately 11,600 over 65s in West Moray. A second Older Adult Psychiatrist cares for those in East Moray, with beds available in Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, and Seafield Hospital, Buckie.
About the Role
This post is based at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, a modern District General Hospital with a range of specialties and diagnostic facilities. One of the attractions of working in Moray is a tradition of close working with colleagues from General Practice and the local authority. Since April 2016, this has been formalized as an Integrated Joint Board.
The Royal Burgh of Elgin thrives as a center of administration, education, tourism, and trade with agricultural, service, and textile industries. Situated in Scotland’s Castle and Whisky country, the area offers a wide range of recreational activities such as golf, fishing, hill walking, surfing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding, and winter sports. This is an opportunity to live and work in a beautiful part of Scotland that offers a great quality of life and has good transport links with the rest of the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Register with the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (all costs will be met by NHS Grampian).
- Opportunities for research with close links between the Service and the Departments of Mental Health and Psychology of the University of Aberdeen.
- Contribute to audit and other elements of clinical governance.
- Engage in annual appraisal towards revalidation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full registration with a license to practice with the GMC (license to practice must be in place prior to starting in post).
- Candidates trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from the date of interview.
- CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded.
- Those with an International Recognized Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. While in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.
