Consultant Older Adult Psychiatrist – Full Time (West Moray)
About the Role
We are pleased to offer this full-time position covering an Older Adult population of approximately 11,600 over-65s in the West of Moray, alongside a second Older Adult Psychiatrist covering East Moray.
Based at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, a modern District General Hospital, this post includes clinical services in Seafield Hospital, Buckie.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality Old Adult psychiatric care to an approximate population of 11,600+ over-65s.
- Provide services across Dr Gray’s Hospital (Elgin) and Seafield Hospital (Buckie).
- Teaching and training:
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
- Register for the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (all costs covered by NHS Grampian).
- Research and clinical governance:
- Engage in audit activities and other governance tasks.
- Collaborate with University of Aberdeen’s Mental Health and Psychology Departments.
- Participate in annual appraisals for revalidation.
- Work with service teams to develop a personalised job plan aligned with service needs, candidate interests, and team dynamics.

Contingencies & Flexibility
- Candidates unable to work full-time on personal grounds may be considered, with an appropriate job description agreed upon appointment.
Requirements
Licensing, Registration & Qualifications
- Full registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Council (GMC) required prior to starting.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register:
- UK-trained candidates must have completed higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry at the time of interview.
- CESR or Portfolio Pathway routes applicants may apply once awarded full specialist registration.
- International graduates with a GMC-approved recognised specialist qualification must have confirmed registration.
Alternative Paths
- Licensed specialists not on the GMC Specialist Register may apply for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months), after which they may pursue CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration.
