The role holder might be working with Nuclear and Radiological Materials.

Job Description

This role can be based at can any of the following sites: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

Additional Responsibilities:

Efficient leadership of a team of multidisciplinary engineers and developing the right culture and capabilities within those teams. Defining and implementing the technical strategy for J1 conventional deplant activities undertaken within the JDR programme. Leading development of new capabilities required to complete JET decommissioning. Helping to define the make / buy strategy and define subsequent specifications to cover all work carried out by third parties to implement this strategy. Ensuring appropriate safety principles and guidance are implemented throughout the programme lifecycle to meet site operating requirements. Providing strategic reviews of the delivery strategy to ensure maximum value and alignment with organisational goals throughout the lifecycle or where issues arise needing critical attention and timely resolution. Approving and reviewing, or suitably delegating, for all major technical documentation and deliverables produced across the Decommissioning programme. Ensuring safety, quality and consistency of delivery for the JET decommissioning programme. Managing and mitigating risk to the JET decommissioning programme by finding solutions or planning work with costed proposals. Managing delivery to key milestones or manage KPI’s to satisfactory closeout. Promoting the decommissioning programme to stakeholders and suppliers to secure engagement and collaboration, maximising value, opportunity, and credibility throughout delivery. Managing stakeholders at all levels and secure funding for the proposed methods of JET decommissioning. Actively promoting UKAEA mission and values and compliance to UKAEA policies and procedures. Acting as a delegate for more senior management.

£25M programme budget The post holder can be required to manage contracts (£500k) relating to engineering support & decommissioning.

Essential Requirements:

A track record of delivering successful innovation in the nuclear, or related, industries. Degree or equivalent experience in engineering or other suitable technical discipline. Proven experience of management and or design of technical plant or process facilities. Excellent communication skills: the ability to communicate and relate to all levels of staff and key stakeholders. Proven line management ability including experience of providing inductions and training, undertaking performance management, leading, and developing others, and budget management. Ability to influence high-level stakeholders in UKAEA and outside the organisation. Proven experience of working with ionising radiation and within highly regulated Industries. Additional Health & Safety or Project Management qualifications desirable. Professional registration within chosen profession or area of expertise. Other Duties:

Chair Engineering and Technical Internal Meetings, or Committees, in support of Site Business Activities. Memberships of other external committees when appropriate. Some UK and international travel. Occasionally enter radiological and beryllium-controlled areas. Required to represent UKAEA in national and international forums and working group meetings.
