Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant, in the laboratory of Dr. Barbieri at the Alzheimer's Center at Temple (ACT), provides technical and operational support for research focused on molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disease. The laboratory investigates how molecular chaperone systems regulate protein quality control and promote cellular resilience in disorders including Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Parkinson's disease.
Research in the laboratory utilizes yeast-based genetic models and human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neuronal systems to study protein aggregation and proteostasis pathways relevant to disease.
The Laboratory Assistant will support routine laboratory operations, including inventory management, reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, and general laboratory organization. The individual will assist with molecular biology, biochemistry, yeast genetics, and mammalian cell culture experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and laboratory personnel.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
