The role
Based on-site with a global pharmaceutical company, you'll manage the technical services that keep the laboratory running efficiently, from supporting a large suite of HPLC and GC instruments through to overseeing laboratory consumables, sampling and day-to-day laboratory support. The role combines technical leadership, problem solving and continuous improvement within a highly regulated scientific environment.
We're looking for an energetic, proactive leader who enjoys improving processes, developing people and delivering an outstanding service to key stakeholders, whilst still being happy to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in when needed.
You'll lead two specialist teams (seven direct reports) providing essential support to analytical chemists across site. This is a hands-on management role where you'll ensure high standards of safety, regulatory compliance and service delivery are maintained at all times.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
