Location: Portsmouth
Salary: GBP 30,000 – GBP 32,000 per annum
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on and motivated Lab Technician to join our client’s team in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical or electrical engineering background who enjoys working in a practical, workshop-based environment.
The successful candidate will support the testing, assembly, and maintenance of equipment, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, assemble, and maintain laboratory and test equipment.
- Carry out mechanical and electrical testing in line with company procedures.
- Support engineers with product development, testing, and validation activities.
- Diagnose faults and assist with repairs and modifications where required.
- Record test results accurately and maintain detailed documentation.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated, maintained, and operating effectively.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workshop/laboratory environment.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation.

Essential Requirements

- Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Hands-on experience within a manufacturing, production, workshop, or engineering environment.
- Strong mechanical and/or electrical assembly skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
- Competent using Microsoft Office applications.
