Site Chemist – Birmingham

Location

Birmingham

Shift Pattern

Rotating shifts (06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00)

About The Opportunity

An established UK organisation is seeking a Laboratory Chemist to join its technical team in Birmingham. The company operates within a highly regulated industrial environment and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.

This role suits candidates with a scientific qualification or practical laboratory experience gained in fields such as technical, manufacturing, process, or science-based environments. Applicants with industry experience and a strong willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

The role requires flexibility due to rotating shifts. While a full UK driving licence is advantageous for occasional operational tasks, it is not essential.


The Role

The Laboratory Chemist will support laboratory operations by:

  • Testing and analysing samples
  • Maintaining records and documentation
  • Adhering to quality, health, safety, and environmental procedures

As part of a wider technical team, the candidate will contribute to ensuring sample accuracy, laboratory standards, and compliance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out laboratory analysis on various samples in line with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess incoming samples against agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Assist in maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Record and maintain accurate laboratory data using computerised systems.
  • Support technical documentation and record management.
  • Promote compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
  • Ensure safe working practices across the site.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and professional laboratory environment.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping.
  • Support regulatory and compliance activities and assist with additional duties as required.

Candidate Requirements

Desirable

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualification in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biological Science, or a related discipline.
  • Previous laboratory, technical, manufacturing, testing, or science-based experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing methodologies.
  • Full UK driving licence (advantageous).
