We are excited to announce the opportunity to become a part of our dynamic, hard-working, and friendly Sample Reception team, with a full-time vacancy available within the department.

Axiom Veterinary Laboratory (part of the CVS Group) is a busy diagnostic pathology facility committed to providing top-quality clinical testing services to a large client base of veterinary practices across the country and abroad.

You would be part of a team responsible for unpacking veterinary sample submissions and booking them into our system quickly and accurately, thereby ensuring that test requests are distributed amongst our laboratory departments promptly and results delivered to client practices as swiftly as possible.

You must be able to remain focused and calm under pressure. Customer care is integral to our business and so the successful candidates will have a “can do” attitude.

This position does not require prior laboratory experience as comprehensive training will be provided in all procedures.

POSITION DETAILS

40 HOURS PER WEEK (ALTERNATING TWO WEEK SHIFT PATTERN)

Week One

  • Monday 08:00 - 14:00
  • Tuesday to Friday 05:00 - 13:30
  • Saturday 05:00 - 11:00

Week Two

  • Tuesday to Friday 05:00 - 14:00
  • Saturday 05:00 - 11:00

Starting salary will be in line with National Minimum Wage

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening, checking, and recording details of newly received submissions and checking against the associated submission forms
  • Transferring information from submission forms to the laboratory information management system (LIMS) accurately and efficiently
  • Numbering and racking samples and preparing them appropriately for onward movement to the relevant laboratory department(s)
  • Taking receipt of incoming supplies deliveries and distributing stock to appropriate recipients/departments
  • Organising shipment of laboratory consignments to external addresses, including but not limited to clients and partner/referral laboratories
  • Handling incoming telephone calls in a polite, confident and concise manner, transferring calls to relevant colleagues as appropriate
  • Making outgoing telephone calls to clients
  • Handling both internal and external emails
  • Receiving and processing results from referral laboratories
  • Contributing to the Quality system, including performing data entry checks, and seeking and recording client feedback

Key Skills

  • Fast and precise data entry skills are essential, in addition to a keen eye for detail
  • Basic computing knowledge is required including use of Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients and staff on all levels
  • Ability to plan and organise own workload when appropriate and prioritise when necessary
  • Confident in understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ability to work as part of a small team at laboratory level as well as with members of the wider CVS company, always maintaining a professional attitude and behaviour
  • Staff are expected to work under their own initiative for routine tasks in which they are competent, using best judgement to know when to seek advice
  • Hours will be as per terms and conditions of employment, but flexibility is required
