About the Laboratory Analyst 2 Position

The Laboratory Analyst 2 will work within a dedicated team responsible for all aspects of QA testing—including development, stability, complaints, and regulatory compliance—of Medical Products and Devices. The team maintains analytical methods and procedures to ensure the quality of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
Your impact will ensure Smith+Nephew maintains exceptional customer care and compliance standards.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Ensure high occupational health & safety standards as per company policies
- Deputise for the Laboratory Supervisor when necessary, guaranteeing smooth laboratory operations
- Perform testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using approved methods and protocols
- Conduct analytical testing (e.g., ICP, GC, IR, UV-Vis, TOC, chemical techniques)
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment under established procedures
- Review, interpret, approve, and report test data to ensure compliance with specifications
- Support investigations into out-of-specification (OOS) or out-of-trend (OOT) results
- Provide technical expertise on testing methodologies and evaluate potential failures
- Prioritise workload to meet agreed lead times and deadlines
- Assist in managing the QA Stability System and ensure compliance with protocols
- Lead method validation, equipment validation, and change control activities
- Oversee equipment availability, calibration, and regulatory compliance
- Train and mentor laboratory analysts for consistent, high-standard work
- Ensure safety-first practices and compliance with risk assessments
- Own and update SOPs, work instructions, and test methods under document control
- Produce technical and scientific reports for complex lab work
- Efficiently manage workload within defined timelines
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Recommend adoption of new analytical technologies

Success Will Require
Bridging science and expertise in quality assurance (QA) demands:
- At least 3 years’ experience in QA
- A science-based degree (degree or equivalent-level qualification)
- Analytical and problem-solving skills—identifying trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement
- Communication and stakeholder engagement—internally and externally
