Laboratory Analyst – Drug, Alcohol & DNA Testing Role – Lextox, Cardiff

Eurofins Lextox is a UKAS-accredited laboratory based in Cardiff, specialising in drug, alcohol, and DNA testing for family law cases and childcare proceedings. As part of Eurofins Forensics Services (EFS), the largest forensic service provider in the UK and Europe, we uphold the highest standards in analytical testing, safety, and compliance across 900+ laboratories worldwide.

Job Description: Laboratory Analyst (Full-Time, Permanent)
Core Responsibilities
- Sample Handling & Testing
- Precisely perform hair sample sectioning to prepare batches for analysis.
- Conduct routine drug and alcohol testing (including abuse substances) using validated methods.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to Lextox Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ISO 17025 certification requirements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential laboratory documentation (e.g., test results, reports).
- Equipment & Quality Assurance
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments (e.g., mass spectrometers, chromatographs).
- Ensure compliance with quality management systems and regulatory standards.
- Confidentiality & Integrity
- Safeguard clientSample data under strict UK Information Governance principles.
- Comply with legal obligations (e.g., court orders/statutory disclosure) while preserving ethical boundaries.

Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s (Hons) degree in:
- Biomedical Sciences
- Biochemistry
- or a relevant scientific discipline
- Proven laboratory experience (minimum 1–2 years); familiarity with toxicology or analytical techniques is critical.
- Exceptional attention to detail and interpersonal skills (e.g., translating complex results for legal teams).
- Strong problem-solving ability and commitment to service excellence.
- Knowledge of:
- ISO 17025 (laboratory accreditation standards).
- Scientific instrumentation and procedural documentation.
Desirable (But Not Mandatory)
- Experience in a toxicity/hair testing lab (injectables preferred).
- Understanding of UK regulatory bodies (e.g., UKAS, MHRA) and their scopes of accreditation.
- Prior exposure to Quality Management Systems (QMS) frameworks.
