Laboratory Assistant

Laboratory Operations Assistant

The Laboratory Operations Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of the R&D environment. The role focuses on:

  • Managing incoming deliveries
  • Unpacking materials
  • Stocking the local storeroom and points of use
  • Ensuring all packaging—including pallets—is disposed of appropriately

The position also supports laboratory teams by moving materials and equipment as required and helping maintain orderly, compliant workspaces.

This is a fully site-based role, working together in person to support close, real-time collaboration and technical precision in manufacturing medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What you will do

  • Receiving, unpacking, and inspecting deliveries for the R&D labs
  • Organising, labelling, and restocking the local storeroom
  • Removing and disposing of packaging materials in line with site procedures
  • Assisting with material, waste, and equipment movement within laboratory areas
  • Supporting general housekeeping and space maintenance activities
  • Working collaboratively to uphold safety, compliance, and operational efficiency
  • Controlling stock and movement of R&D consumables and chemical components on- and off-site
  • Supporting lean lab practices, including 6S standards implementation
  • Placing internal and external SAP orders, obtaining quotes, and coordinating deliveries of ordered items
  • Arranging departmental shipments (liaising with the Shipping team)
  • Supporting the site and R&D safety culture, and procedures
  • Providing general assistance to R&D Laboratory Management on a daily basis
  • Carrying out ad-hoc duties as requested to support smooth lab operations

What we are looking for

Experience

  • Practical experience or background in Materials Coordination, Inventory Control, or Logistical Support (0–4 years of entry-level experience).

Technical Skills

  • Awareness or experience with manual handling, including the safe operation of pallet trucks or similar lifting devices.

System Knowledge

  • Familiarity with or an aptitude to learn:
    • SAP ordering software
    • Inventory tracking system logic
    • Lean lab environments or 6S systems

Organization & Detail

  • Exceptional organizational skills with a strong eye for detail to spot and resolve problematic stock or operational issues early.

  • Ability to handle multiple administrative tasks simultaneously and adapt quickly to shifting lab priorities.

Communication
