What the role is

Provide technical support in casework examinations, laboratory operation, instrument maintenance, quality assurance and research and development activities, with the objective of providing reliable, timely and efficient forensic services.

What you will be working on

  • Conduct Testing of Drugs and Metabolites: Perform comprehensive testing of drugs of abuse and metabolites in biological samples, encompassing sampling, extraction, and instrumental analysis, in strict adherence to laboratory manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Operate and Maintain Laboratory Instruments: Proficiently operate and ensure the proper maintenance of a range of laboratory instruments, including analytical balances, laboratory centrifuges, chromatography and mass spectrometry systems.
  • Calibration of Instruments: Execute regular calibration procedures for laboratory instruments to uphold accuracy and reliability in testing processes.
  • Reagent Preparation and Inventory Management: Prepare reagents and meticulously maintain inventories of laboratory consumables to facilitate seamless testing operations.
  • Support Quality Assurance Duties: Assist in laboratory quality assurance duties to ensure the precision and consistency of testing outcomes.
  • Safety and Cleanliness Adherence: Uphold a safe and clean working environment by strictly adhering to safety procedures and regulations, as well as maintaining laboratory housekeeping standards.
  • Technique and Method Development: Collaborate in the development and validation of innovative techniques and methods for the testing of drugs and metabolites in biological samples, contributing to the advancement of testing capabilities.

What we are looking for

  • Educational Background: Background in Applied Chemistry or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Extraction and Chromatography: Basic knowledge in extraction and chromatography techniques.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Demonstrate strong teamwork abilities and effective time management skills, contributing to a cohesive and efficient working environment.
  • Core Strengths: Demonstrate conscientiousness and methodical approach in carrying out tasks, with emphasis on precision and accuracy.
  • Digital Literacy: Interest in process improvement and willingness to learn digital tools to enhance workflow efficiency.

The successful candidate will be offered a 1-year contract (with option for automatic renewal for a further one year) in the first instance.
