Laboratory Practitioner – Permanent Role (Embryology Team)
Location Care Fertility Cardiff, Meadows, Rhodfa Marics, Pontyclun, CF72 8XL
Hours Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (8am – 4pm), with weekend and bank holiday work on a rota basis
Salary £25,285 – £27,325 per annum (FTE, depending on experience)

About The Role
As a Laboratory Practitioner, you will work alongside Clinical Scientists to ensure seamless laboratory operations, including:
Core Responsibilities
- Diagnostic semen analysis in accordance with industry standards
- Sperm preparation, freezing and thawing procedures
- Support for oocyte collection, embryo transfer, and surgical sperm retrievals
- Preparation of laboratory equipment, gradients and culture dishes
- Accurate maintenance of records, including treatment documentation and cryostorage data
- Assisting with equipment monitoring, stock control, and laboratory audits
- Ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to internal quality standards

Additional Duties
- Data management: Working with clinical databases and digital systems for accurate patient tracking
- Cross-department collaboration: Coordination with multidisciplinary teams across other Care Fertility units
- Laboratory maintenance: Supporting hygiene, safety, and compliance procedures
- Quality assurance: Initiatives and processes to drive continuous improvement
About You
Ideal candidates bring: ✔ Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail ✔ Confidence in handling data, IT systems, and administrative processes ✔ Essential: Past experience in an administrative or clinical support role ✔ Comfort working in regulated healthcare environments with strict procedures ✔ Strong communicator & team player, motivated by patient-centred excellence
Essential Requirements
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, database management)
