Clinical Support Assistant – Clinical Research Unit, Leeds (0-hours Bank Role)

Fortrea's Clinical Research Unit in Leeds is where life-saving medicines begin their journey.

You’ll be part of a team dedicated to one crucial question: will this new medicine be safe?

Working in a fast-paced environment, supporting meaningful research on a part-time, flexible basis, this role could be a great fit if you enjoy interacting with people, staying organised, and adapting to clinic demands.

The Role

A Bank (0-hours) position where work is offered as needed by clinic demand. This is an office-based role at our Drapers Yard Clinical Research Unit, just a 7-minute walk from Leeds train station.

  • Shifts typically available Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend, twilight, or nightshift coverage.
  • During busier periods, hours can reach up to 37 per week, though exact hours will vary week-to-week.

The role offers flexible experience in clinical research, allowing you to support critical studies while accommodating other commitments.

Who You Are

You don’t need a scientific background or degree, but we’re looking for:

  • A practical, curious, and keen-to-learn attitude.
  • Attention to detail is key—if you clean up after yourself, follow processes carefully, and don’t like mess, this might suit you.
  • We’ll provide full training to develop the skills you need.

Of between a good basic or GCSE standard of education, with prior experience in:

  • Shipping packages
  • Organising storerooms (ideally in a clean, precision-based environment)

Key Requirements

You will need to bring:

  • Organisational excellence: Your workspace must be tidy, neat, and left ready for the next shift.
  • Deadline awareness: Ability to work to instructions without shortcuts.
  • Clear communication: Strong verbal, written (email), and IT system proficiency.
  • Procedure compliance: Experience adhering to regulations.

Your Day-to-Day Role (Key Duties)

As part of the team overseeing thousands of daily biomedical samples, your tasks include:

  • Coordinating storage and shipment of samples in accordance with:

    • Study protocol
    • Lab Manual procedures
    • Global Custom & shipping protocol standards
  • Managing dangerous goods compliance, including:

    • Biohazardous material packaging
    • Regulatory shipping protocols
  • Calibrating Lab equipment and monitoring temperature-sensitive sample integrity.

  • Dispatching samples to external labs worldwide.
