Reports to: Business Manager/Lab Director
Location: Edgware, London, HA8 7EB
Job Type: Full-Time (40 Hours Per Week)
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Successful candidates will be willing to work on a shift-based schedule, including evenings until midnight and weekends.

To assist and run tests at Kernel Diagnostic Laboratories, and support various operational tasks across the lab.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, label, and sort samples in accordance with strict laboratory protocols
  • Maintain lab equipment: cleaning, sterilisation, calibration, inventory, and maintenance
  • Conduct routine QA/QC testing, analyse results, and report to senior colleagues
  • Process samples promptly and accurately for analysis
  • Monitor and manage consumables and reagents
  • Manage biological and chemical waste processing and disposal
  • Oversee lab organisation, including deliveries, sample storage, and equipment logistics
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with healthcare regulations, including CQC and UKAS ISO 17025:2012
  • Support R&D initiatives and contribute precise data as required
  • Maintain cleanliness and adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures
  • Develop relevant technical skills through task-based learning
  • Escalate any operational issues to company leadership and building management

📌 Essential Criteria

  • A degree in life/biomedical sciences or a closely related field
  • At least 1 year's experience working in a biological lab
  • Competent with practical techniques and troubleshooting technical issues
  • Experience maintaining and calibrating equipment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office; strong organisational ability
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Enthusiasm and personal initiative to solve problems, a self-starter with ability to work unsupervised
