The Position

Laboratory Technician – Sample Preparation & Physical Analysis (SPPA)

Job Summary

Role: Laboratory Technician – SPPA

Location: Par Moor Centre, Par Moor Road, Par, Cornwall, PL24 2SQ

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Shift pattern: Monday–Friday, rotating two-shift pattern

Week 1: 07:00–15:00
Week 2: 14:00–22:00

Salary: up to £26,369.03 DOE per annum plus applicable shift payment

We are currently recruiting a Laboratory Technician to join our Sample Preparation & Physical Analysis (SPPA) team at our Par Moor Centre in Cornwall. This is an opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within a laboratory and scientific environment.

The role is hands-on and operational, involving sample preparation, physical testing, and supporting the wider analytical team. It is ideal for candidates who enjoy practical work, following structured processes, and working as part of a close-knit team.

The Job Role

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Carrying out laboratory-scale sample preparation and physical analysis using approved test methods and Good Laboratory Practice
  • Performing repetitive, hands-on manual handling of bulk raw material samples
  • Supporting the wider analytical team with sample preparation and testing activities
  • Accurately recording and reporting results using laboratory systems, including LIMS and Google-based tools
  • Supporting ISO9001 laboratory accreditation through routine checks, calibration and quality control activities
  • Working safely at all times, adhering to health & safety procedures, risk assessments and PPE requirements
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards within the laboratory and surrounding work areas
  • Working independently once trained, with guidance from experienced team members

You Will:

  • Be comfortable with hands-on, repetitive and physical work
  • Be organised, methodical and highly safety-conscious
  • Have basic computer skills, including spreadsheets and word processing (Google Docs / Sheets or similar)
  • Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team
  • Be willing to work a rotating shift pattern (Monday–Friday)

Desirable But Not Essential:

  • Previous laboratory, manufacturing or industrial experience
  • Experience working with laboratory systems (e.g. LIMS)
  • An interest in science, geology or analytical work

Full training will be provided, with the opportunity to progress following successful completion of probation and competency assessment.
