Are you passionate about quality, safety, and making a real impact in the construction materials industry? Heidelberg Materials UK is looking for a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our technical team and ensure our building materials products meet the highest standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Laboratory Technician, you’ll be at the heart of our central technical operations and responsible for:
- Testing & Quality Control: Carry out physical testing on mortars and chemical analysis on cementitious materials. Ensure compliance with BS EN standards and local operating procedures. Review and input test data into LIMS.
- Data input: Accurately input data into LIMS, reporting anomalies and errors. Input in a timely manner and review data tracking reports.
- Working in a Team: Working within a team on a testing rota. Shared objectives with room for personal growth.
- Equipment: Daily checks to ensure compliance with quality criterion from relevant BS EN standards. Daily checks to ensure equipment is safe to operate. Routine calibration checks to ensure equipment accuracy. Maintain high levels of cleanliness of machines and equipment.
- Compliance & Safety: Follow all safety protocols and regulatory standards. Actively report near misses and ensure safe working practices.
- Training: Full on the job training given. Develop product knowledge of cements and supplementary cementitious materials. NVQ’s and University qualifications in Building Materials and Concrete Technology.
- Research & Development: Product development and research. Industry development projects. Plant operational efficiency technical support.

Key Accountabilities
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures
- Liaise with contractors and internal teams to meet customer expectations
- Report any defects or issues affecting product quality or safety
- Maintain Laboratory cleanliness and professional standards
- Support investigations into product issues and complaints
- Challenge unsafe or non-compliant behaviours
- Report quality and safety near misses
What You’ll Need
- Understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental compliance
- Understanding of Risk Assessments, Operating Procedures, COSHH
- GCSE – Maths, Science, English
- A level preferred (not mandatory requirement)
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Uncompromised attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Mature work ethic
Relevant skills
Do you have experience in Quality Control, Factory Production Control, or Data Analysis? Perhaps you have good technical experiences from a Manufacturing Technician or Engineering Technician background? If you pride yourself on accuracy of performance and a meticulous eye for detail, then you have the skills we are looking for.
