Location: Shotton, Flintshire (CH5)

Salary: £26,000 – £28,000 (pro rata, depending on experience)

Building Systems UK (part of TATA Steel Europe) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the testing, analysis, and measurement of PIR composite panels in a modern manufacturing environment. Our products, used across the construction sector for insulation and fire resistance, rely on your expertise to ensure consistent product quality.


About the Role

As a Laboratory Technician, you will contribute to Factory Production Control by performing critical tasks in a fast-paced industrial setting.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing, measuring, and analysis of PIR composite panels for quality assurance.
  • Responsible for chemical offloading and blending, including lab analysis of raw materials and final blended products.
  • Accurately record technical data in business quality management systems.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on lab equipment, escalating faults as required.
  • Collaborate with material control to forecast chemical usage for manufacturing lines, ensuring raw material availability and minimising downtime.
  • Monitor and track chemical consumable stocks in the laboratory and blending facility.
  • Promote and uphold a positive health and safety culture across the business.

Requirements

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • A background in manufacturing or industrial laboratories, with experience in quality control and assurance.
  • Familiarity with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and chemical awareness—though training will be provided.
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work safely under pressure in a dynamic production environment.
  • Core numeracy and IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.

Formally structured experience in this field is not mandatory—training will be given.
