About Us

Material Evolution is a materials technology company founded in 2020 by Dr. Liz Gilligan and Sam Clark. Headquartered in Middlesbrough, in 2024 we commissioned the UK's largest ultra-low-carbon cement factory in Wrexham.

We exist to solve one of the world's toughest climate problems. As a team of scientists, engineers, and commercial and operational experts, we're rethinking how essential materials are made; starting with cement, an industry responsible for around 8% of global CO₂ emissions.

Backed by leading impact and technology investors, we're on a mission to rapidly and radically decarbonise industrial materials. If you're motivated by real-world impact and want to work close to the heart of a purpose-driven business, you'll feel at home here.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Help reduce the global environmental footprint by assisting in the development of green construction materials.
  • Unleash your inner scientist by conducting cutting-edge lab experiments and be part of developing innovative new products that challenge traditional material science.
  • Assist in completing scientific testing and production to ensure projects are delivered on time.
  • Work closely with experts from various departments to foster knowledge-sharing and teamwork as we work toward a common goal.
  • Prepare and test samples according to client or company-specified methods.
  • Ensure our research and products stay reliable by accurately recording and maintaining laboratory data in our systems
  • Help sustain a safe, efficient, and high-standard workspace by following our lab housekeeping processes
  • Support seamless operations by managing stock levels and ensuring materials and supplies are always available

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
