HOURS: Full or part time (at least 0.5 FTE) with the salary adjusted on a pro-rata basis

By automating routine and time-consuming tasks, Ogibiotec’s systems enable researchers to focus on more complex scientific questions, accelerating discovery and innovation. Founded in 2020, we’re now scaling our commercial operations in the UK, Europe and the US and accelerating development to support this. We’re looking for a laboratory technician to play a key role in our next growth chapter.
About this opportunity
Ogibiotec is looking for a microbiological lab technician to support our R&D team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with physicists and engineers developing novel technologies for automated microbial cultures. This position is well suited to a recent graduate or early-career scientist looking to gain experience in an industry-focused laboratory setting.

About The Candidate
You are either a recent graduate in biology or a skilled laboratory technician with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to supporting R&D scientists in their experimental work. You are familiar with working in a BSL-1 microbiology laboratory environment, including the safe handling and disposal of microbiological cultures. You possess strong communication skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively with scientists from a range of disciplines, and you are able to maintain clear, accurate, and well-organised laboratory documentation.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain laboratory operations, including stocking consumables and supplies, preparing microbiological media, managing waste disposal, and coordinating repairs and servicing of laboratory equipment.
- Provide technical support to R&D scientists in microbiological experiments, research activities, and customer process validation projects.
- Communicate effectively with R&D team members regarding experiment progress, testing outcomes, and laboratory activities.
- Assist with the onboarding and training of new staff members, interns, or students as required.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of laboratory procedures, experiments, and test results.
- Support the preparation of risk assessments and contribute to laboratory audits, inspections, and accreditation activities where applicable.

Essential qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher qualification) in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Knowledge of microbiological techniques and standard laboratory procedures.
- Experience handling biological samples safely.
- For recent graduates without industry experience: strong academic performance in relevant subjects, demonstrated through academic transcripts.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
Desired qualifications
- Previous experience working in a microbiology laboratory environment.
- Experience with genetic engineering of microbes.
- Experience working with engineers and physicists.
- Familiarity with e-lab books.
