Help Shape the Future of Sustainable Manufacturing
Shotton Mill is transforming the UK paper industry, creating the UK's largest recycled containerboard and tissue manufacturing campus.
We're looking for a dedicated and detail-focused Laboratory Tester (shift) to join our Quality team and play a vital role in ensuring our products consistently meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and customer expectations.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment, supporting the production of sustainable paper products while developing your career with a rapidly growing business.
What You'll Be Doing
Quality Testing & Analysis
- Collect samples from production in line with quality procedures
- Perform paper, pulp, and laboratory quality tests accurately and efficiently
- Record, analyse, and maintain test results within company systems
- Compare test results against customer and product specifications
- Identify and escalate non-conforming products to ensure quality standards are maintained
Product & Process Quality Control
- Approve compliant products and support decisions on conditional releases
- Conduct customer-specific quality inspections and specialist testing requirements
- Archive and manage production trial samples
- Assist with incoming quality inspections of auxiliary materials
- Support continuous improvement through effective quality monitoring

Laboratory Equipment & Standards
- Ensure laboratory equipment is used, maintained, and monitored correctly
- Report equipment faults, issues, or calibration concerns
- Follow laboratory procedures and testing standards at all times
- Help maintain accurate records and documentation
Sustainability, Safety & Compliance
- Work in accordance with FSC and PEFC certification requirements
- Maintain high laboratory housekeeping and cleanliness standards
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices
- Participate in shift handovers to ensure smooth operational continuity
- Report safety concerns and support a positive safety culture
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous experience in a Laboratory Tester, Quality Control, or Quality Assurance role within manufacturing
- Strong understanding of quality standards and testing procedures
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
- Good computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Willingness to work a shift-based pattern

Desirable
- Experience within paper manufacturing, converting, packaging, or process industries
- Laboratory testing experience within a production environment
- Knowledge of FSC and PEFC standards
- Understanding of quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies
